Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa Pipes and Drums
win at the Maxville Highland Games

OTTAWA, July 2005 - The Pipes and Drums of the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa competed in the North American Pipe Band Championships held at the Glengarry Highland Games in Maxville on Saturday and were crowned Champions in the Grade 4 category.

Band Maxville 2005This is a tremendous achievement for a band that hasn't competed in Maxville for over twenty years and it's been almost thirty years since an Army band has won first place.

There were about twenty bands in the Grade 4 category, judged on the following criteria:

ATTACK - a combination of drum rolls, drones and chanters beginning at specific points together, in-sync, before the tune is started.

TONE/TUNING - quality of sound of chanters, drones and drums

EXPRESSION - a combination of tempo, rhythm and duration of notes in music.

PITCH - the sharpness or flatness of the pipe chanters and drum heads.

EXECUTION - how well particular movements and played and executed

UNISON - how well the pipe or drum corps plays together (as one)

ENSEMBLE - how the pipe and drum corps complement each other musically.

Congratulation to all band members for the time and effort they have made over the past year.
