Cameron's participate in Ex Drum Beat
By Cpl Dave

Fort Drum, New York, USA March 2005 - From
18th - 20th March, 2005 the
Cameron Highlanders, along with other regiments of 33 Brigade participated
in Exercise Drum Beat, a brigade exercise taking place in Fort Drum,
New York. Fort Drum encompasses a very large area of upstate New
York and is home to more than 14,000 troops and civilian workers.
The main objective for the Cameronsand
other regiments of the brigade while training in the states was
to conduct a raid on one of the 'Orange Land Army's' Observation
Posts. The Camerons fighting patrol that was led by Second- Lieutenant
Lee was given orders to raid an Orange Land outpost. This attack
was coordinated with other regiments in the brigade so that all
of the friendly forces attacked the 'enemy' outposts simultaneously.
After the Cameron's troops stepped off before midnight on Sunday
they persisted through thick and thin brush as well as the cold,
wet and snow-covered ground ofthe
New York training area to proceed to theirobjective. The Cameronswere
able to get toand destroy their objective successfully, despite
many 'no-duffs' (injuries) that occurred. In retrospect it was a
good, although wet, cold and tiring, training weekend as it allowed
the Cameron's troops to understand their strengths and weaknesses.
ADVANCE!
